R. H. Boyd seeks Staff Writers to develop sophisticated content across curricula, The Union Review, digital platforms, and special projects. Advanced writers will shape voice with thoughtful storytelling and editorial excellence aligned to our legacy and mission.

Ideal candidates combine research-based writing, curriculum development, feature writing, and digital content creation, with strong theological/cultural awareness and clear communication across formats.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Communications, Theology or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional writing or editorial experience, preferably in publishing, education, faith-based content, or media.
  • Demonstrated ability to write for varied audiences, formats, and reading levels.
  • Strong command of grammar, structure, storytelling, and narrative development.
  • Experience writing curriculum or educational materials strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Black church traditions, African American history, and culturally relevant pedagogy is an asset.
  • Proficiency in AP Style and Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Comfort with hybrid work and collaboration across departments.
  • Experience working with diverse authors and content related to faith, social justice, or community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality written content for curriculum, devotionals, educational resources, newsletters, press releases, and long-form articles.
  • Write compelling features, interviews, columns, and editorials for R. H. Boyd publications and online platforms.
  • Create content that reflects R. H. Boyd’s distinct voice, mission, and culturally relevant perspective.
  • Draft copy for websites, email marketing, social media, and promotional materials as assigned.
  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and theological consistency across all written materials.
  • Support curriculum development by writing or refining lessons, activities, leader guides, and supplementary content.
  • Conduct thorough research to ensure content is biblically sound, age-appropriate, and effective.
  • Collaborate with editors, designers, and subject matter experts to bring curriculum concepts to life.
  • Coordinate with the Editorial, Marketing, and Creative teams to develop concepts, themes, and story ideas.
  • Participate in editorial planning meetings for print and digital publications.
  • Revise content based on editorial feedback and ensure that all work meets quality standards.
  • Maintain a strong pipeline of story ideas and seasonal content.
  • Write engaging content for blogs, digital campaigns, and online learning platforms.
  • Adapt content for SEO best practices, social media engagement, and digital storytelling formats.
  • Provide scripts or outlines for video, podcast, or multimedia projects as needed.
  • Stay informed on cultural, social, and religious trends impacting our audiences.
  • Conduct interviews, gather quotes, and develop narratives reflecting diverse voices and experiences.

Position Overview:

R.H. Boyd is seeking highly skilled Staff Writers to develop sophisticated,compelling content across our curriculum products, The Union Review newspaper, digital platforms, and special projects. Advanced-level writers will play a critical role in shaping the voice of R.H. Boyd through thoughtful storytelling, culturally relevant writing, and editorial excellence that aligns with our legacy and mission.

The ideal candidates are versatile writers who demonstrates mastery in research-based writing, curriculum development, feature writing, editorial journalism, and digital content creation. This role requires initiative, creativity, strong theological and cultural awareness, and the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging, and accessible content.

Key Responsibilities:
Content Development and Writing
  • Produce high-quality written content for curriculum, devotionals, educational resources, newsletters, press releases, and long-form articles.
  • Write compelling features, interviews, columns, and editorials for R.H. Boyd publications and online platforms.
