Job description

HeartCry Missionary Society is seeking a Managing Editor to oversee and safeguard the quality of all written content produced by the ministry. This role ensures that publications are clear, accurate, theologically sound, and consistent with HeartCry’s mission and convictions.

This role oversees the editorial process from concept to publication, ensuring that written materials faithfully represent the ministry's work and honor Christ in tone, structure, and substance. Through disciplined editorial judgment and careful leadership of writers, the Managing Editor protects trust with missionaries, churches, and supporters. The work of this role ensures that everything published by HeartCry reflects excellence, restraint, and doctrinal faithfulness.

The Managing Editor must exercise discernment, theological clarity, and structural judgment while guiding others toward stronger work. The Managing Editor serves as a final editorial gatekeeper, exercising theological clarity and structural judgment to ensure that all written communication is worthy of the mission it represents.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee the editorial process from intake through publication
  2. Edit written content for clarity, accuracy, and theological faithfulness
  3. Guide and develop writers through constructive feedback
  4. Manage the editorial calendar and publication flow
  5. Collaborate with internal teams and designers
What We’re Looking For
  1. Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail
  2. Clear theological alignment with HeartCry’s doctrinal convictions, including substantial agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith
  3. Ability to lead writers through critique and revision
  4. Experience managing content quality and deadlines
  5. Willingness to work in person and collaborate closely with a team
Preferred Experience
  1. Editorial leadership or management experience
  2. Ministry or missions-related publishing experience
  3. Written materials experience (magazines, tracts, periodicals)
  4. Experience coordinating with design or production teams

Project Management: Develop timelines, tasks, and progress to ensure all projects meet quality standards. Utilize processes, tools, and techniques to ensure that the team is organized and focused.

Ministry Vision and Theology: Integrate HeartCry’s vision and theology into all written media strategies and outputs.

Oversee Content: Review and approve all content produced by the written media team, ensuring consistency with HeartCry’s theology, culture, vision, and excellence.

HeartCry Mission Statement: The goal of our ministry is to glorify God and bring the greatest possible good to humankind through the preaching of the gospel and the establishment of biblical churches throughout the world by means of equipping and mobilizing Indigenous churches and missionaries.
