Job description

This position assists in directing work for repair and replacement, selection, maintenance, and preservation of all Department-owned public and private facilities. It is accountable for rehabilitation projects and coordinating new construction projects and utility plans that meet state and local requirements with minimal supervision.

Examples of Work

The following are illustrative examples of the duties performed. This list is not exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties may be assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those described and may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at-will" employer.

  1. Make on-site inspections of repair work and new construction for public and private facilities, including utility installation and relocation projects, to ensure conformance to directives, standards, manuals, or plans.
  2. Assemble design drawings, specifications, bid quantities, and make cost estimates for building and utility projects.
  3. Assist in coordinating, supervising, and checking the work of Facilities Management staff.
  4. Assist in developing a comprehensive building replacement and renovation plan.
  5. Consult with Districts on maintenance and replacement issues for public and private facilities.
  6. Coordinate work with Facilities Management staff.
  7. Assist Districts with preservation projects or other requests from Divisions.
  8. Provide technical assistance and consultation to State Maintenance and District personnel.
  9. Perform site investigations for property the Department is considering purchasing.
  10. Act as a liaison between Facilities Management and other Divisions within the Department as needed.

Education and Experience: Possession of a current Arkansas professional engineering license OR graduation from an EAC or ABET-approved civil engineering curriculum, or equivalent as judged by the Arkansas Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Experience in building construction, site investigation, basic surveying, and supervisory ability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication across diverse educational backgrounds, ability to interpret Department policies, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

Working Conditions: Occasional statewide travel.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. Engineer Intern certification.

Yes. Frequent in-state travel, including occasional overnight stays.
