Job summary

Gurley Precision Instruments in New York seeks an experienced Advanced Encoder Assembler to join our manufacturing team. This role requires precision, a strong electronics foundation, and the ability to assemble, troubleshoot, and repair encoder components.

You will support prototype builds, document processes, and train peers while maintaining a clean, safe work environment. Strong attention to detail and independent judgment are essential.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Encoder Assembler to join our manufacturing team.


This role requires a strong technical background in basic electronics, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while assembling, troubleshooting, and repairing encoder components and related subassemblies.


The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on assembly experience, enjoys precision work, and is capable of supporting prototype builds, repairs, documentation, and training of fellow team members.


Key Responsibilities


  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot encoder assemblies and electronic components.

  • Read and follow technical documentation, work instructions, and assembly procedures.

  • Use electronic testing equipment to verify product quality and functionality.

  • Perform repairs, rework, and replacement of defective components.

  • Assist with prototype builds, kit assembly, and special projects.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of assembly and testing activities.

  • Support production by training less experienced assemblers when needed.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Physical Requirements


  • Light-duty work, primarily performed while seated.

  • Manual dexterity required for precision assembly work.

  • Clean, organized manufacturing environment.

  • Regular handling of pulse discs, slit plates, and other precision electronic components.

  • Exposure to minor hazards associated with soldering and electronics, including occasional electrical shock or soldering burns.


Preferred Skills


  • Experience with prototype assembly and product repair.

  • Ability to assist with training and mentoring team members.

  • Flexible, cross-functional manufacturing experience.

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
