Job summary

Buncombe County Government is seeking a Maintenance Technician II to join the Detention Center facilities team. The role involves hands-on work across HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting to keep County buildings safe and operational.

The ideal candidate will be a team player with strong communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills, able to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. On-call rotation is required due to essential operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and a minimum of three years of progressive experience in trades such as HVAC, electric, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, or painting, or equivalent.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, replace, and repair county buildings, facilities and grounds including HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting, welding, and light electrical work.
• Perform general carpentry work for construction, remodel, repair or alteration of floors, roofs, doors, windows, and screens.
• Maintain heating and cooling systems, alarm systems, water systems and remove/replace doors.
• Review work orders, construction plans, specifications, and technical instructions.
• Apply knowledge of safety procedures when operating tools and working with machinery and moving parts.
