Job summary

Minnesota Power, an ALLETE company, is an electric utility headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota. This advanced apprenticeship position reports to Eveleth, MN and offers compensation ranging from $45.97 to $53.15 per hour with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement, health, and tuition reimbursement.

Responsibilities include installing and maintaining electrical lines, coordinating line work with multiple departments, and restoring service promptly while adhering to DOT/FMCSA

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Apprentice level – Over one year of job related experience as a lineworker or candidate has completed a Technical College Lineworker training program.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, removes and maintains electrical lines, equipment and fiber optic cable by efficient and safe operation of various pieces of heavy equipment and specialized tools.
  • Coordinates line work activities with various departments, contractors and the general public.
  • Restores electrical service by trouble shooting electrical lines and equipment.
  • Minimizes outage duration by effectively diagnosing problems and planning/implementing restoration activities.
  • During the normal work day, occasionally works without direct supervision.
  • May be the first to respond to trouble calls or outages, requiring development of appropriate response and safeguarding of the public.
  • Required to work effectively and courteously with and around the public at all times regardless of conditions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required to develop and maintain positive working relationships.

Education
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience
  • Apprentice Level – Over one year of job related experience as a lineworker or candidate has completed a Technical College Lineworker training program. (3rd 6 months or higher)
    • Level to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
Special Requirements
  • This position will report regularly in person to Eveleth, MN.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and valid Medical Certificate.
  • This position is subject to Federal DOT FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act) regulations.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
Compensation And Benefits

The expected hourly compensation range for this advanced apprenticeship is $45.97 – $53.15. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, and experience.
