Job summary

ALLETE is seeking a skilled Journeyman Lineworker to join our transmission and distribution crew in Cloquet, MN. You will install, maintain, and repair underground and overhead lines, read prints, and coordinate with teammates to ensure safe, reliable power delivery.

Responsibilities include leading a small crew, interpreting work orders, adhering to safety policies, and training apprentices. A valid Class A CDL and DOT qualifications are required; two years of journey-level linework are

Qualifications

  • Two years or more experience as a Journey Level Lineworker is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and Medical Certificate.
  • Safety policies and procedures knowledge; able to train apprentices.

Job description


  • Directs and works with 2-4 other personnel engaged in installing, replacing, maintaining, and repairing both lines and equipment for Underground and Overhead Transmission/Distribution Systems.

  • Receives and interprets work assignments. Plans and coordinates equipment and material. Determines logical sequence for tasks. Coordinates activities with internal/external contacts.

  • Directs and works with crew and other personnel in safely performing all aspects of line work, including out-of-town work, trouble shooting and after hour calls outs. Becomes involved with design modifications as needed. Ensures work is carried out within acceptable boundaries.

  • Responsible for administrative duties: Stays current with policies, procedures and understands paperwork required by the job and Company

  • Ensures safety and training requirements are met. Communicates and assures compliance with Company safety policy and practices. Provides and coordinates training opportunities for apprentices and other crew members. Participates in documenting apprentice’s progression evaluation and providing of feedback to the apprentice.

  • Maintains and develops and increased understanding of line-related technology; including tools, associated equipment, work procedures and material changes. Assist other in same.

  • Must utilize appropriate leadership and human relationship skills in working with other employees and the public.

  • Performs duties of a like or lesser grade which may be assigned.

  • Must be familiar with safe use of all tools utilized by lineworkers and instruct in use when necessary. Assures availability and proper use of high voltage protective material and various test equipment.

  • Requires a thorough knowledge of all technical aspects of line work and a general knowledge of all equipment used in line work. Requires a broad knowledge of fundamentals of electricity to direct and perform work of installing and maintaining underground as well as overhead transmission and distribution systems. Requires ability to read and apply information from prints and Company Distribution systems. Requires ability to read and apply information from prints and Company Distribution Specifications pertaining to the installation of lines and equipment. Requires knowledge of new materials available and their application to daily job assignments. Requires knowledge of meter installations. Must know and enforce Company safety rules. Requires knowledge of feeder lines.



REQUIRED EDUCATION


  • High School Diploma or equivalent

    • Completion of a Technical College Lineworker Training Program preferred.





REQUIRED EXPERIENCE


  • Two years or more experience as a Journey Level Lineworker is required.



SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and Medical Certificate.

  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

  • This job falls under the special weighting given to leadership requirements under Paragraph 70 of the union contract.

  • This position is subject to Federal DOT FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act).

  • Work must be performed under all weather conditions and at any time of day or night during emergencies.



COMPENSATION


  • The hourly compensation for this position is $62.59.
