This hands-on internship is onsite in San Francisco. You’ll learn why a print or mechanism fails and contribute to making the next version faster, stronger, and more reliable through careful experimentation and documentation.

Qualifications

• Hands-on 3D printing experience with built parts.
• CAD skills and interest in mechanisms, materials and manufacturing.
• Ability to troubleshoot print failures and reason about fit, strength and tolerances.
• Patience with measurement and iteration, with a drive to build quickly.
• Clear communication and careful documentation of results.

Responsibilities

• Design and iterate mechanical parts for additive manufacturing.
• Prepare prints and evaluate orientation, supports, fit, strength, and material choices.
• Operate and maintain 3D printers and troubleshoot print failures.
• Measure parts, check tolerances, assemble prototypes, and test mechanical behavior.
• Compare print settings and designs using practical experiments.
• Document results and help make successful parts and print processes repeatable.
