Job summary

New Hanover County is seeking an experienced Social Work Supervisor to join the Adult Services division of the Social Services department. The role shares supervisory responsibility for APS and APS-T social workers, overseeing assessments, investigations, and ongoing case management to ensure safe and compliant service delivery.

The ideal candidate holds MSW or BSW with substantial supervisory and adult welfare experience, with strong leadership and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• MSW from an accredited school of social work is required.
• Alternatively, a BSW from an accredited school of social work with relevant experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Supervises APS and APS-T staff, assigns work, evaluates performance.
• Coordinates APS and APS-T services and ensures policy compliance.
• Monitors case progress, documents compliance, and reviews records in Traverse.
• Provides guidance on protective-service decisions and risk management.
• Participates in staffing and transfers across teams as needed.
• Represents department in community partnerships and trainings.
