Job summary

The Barrington Area Library is seeking an Adult Services Assistant Librarian to deliver reference and readers' advisory to adult and young adult customers, both in person and virtually, while offering basic tech assistance and promoting library programs.

This part-time, non-exempt role typically yields 20-24 hours weekly with shifts Mon–Fri 8:30am–5pm plus one evening per week and occasional weekends. Starting pay is $20.00–$22.50 per hour plus PTO.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Prior experience delivering exceptional customer service to diverse individuals and groups is a plus.
• Strong collaborative and problem-solving abilities in both team settings and customer interactions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The Adult Services Assistant Librarian plays an important role in creating positive customer experiences through knowledgeable, timely, and friendly assistance.

LOCATION:

505 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington, IL

SCHEDULING:

This is a year-round, part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. Hours average 20-24 hours per week. Scheduling generally consists of M-F shifts between 8:30 AM - 5 PM, plus one evening per week, one Friday evening per month, and one weekend per month.

PAY & BENEFITS:

The starting pay range is $20.00 - $22.50 per hour (DOQ). Skills, experience, and internal equity will determine offer made. This position is eligible for the following benefits:
