Job summary

Virginia Department of Social Services seeks a Family Services Specialist for Adult Protective Services in Suffolk. The role entails interviewing clients, conducting APS investigations, and coordinating services to meet needs. Requires a Bachelor's in Human Services or related field with relevant experience; a BSW/MSW is desirable. Valid driver’s license preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field with 1–2 years of related experience; CDL not required but valid driver’s license is desirable.
• BSW or MSW preferred; experience in social services is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Investigates Adult Protective Services cases and documents findings within required timeframes.
• Interviews clients, assesses needs, explains program options, and assists with applying for benefits.
• Develops and implements service plans; coordinates with resources to ensure appropriate services.
• Maintains confidential records and prepares required reports and correspondence.
• Provides counseling, referrals to social services, and follow-up on outcomes.
• Manages caseload, prioritizes appointments, and ensures timely service delivery.
