Job summary

Texans Together is seeking an Adoption Preparation Specialist to support children in achieving safe, stable, and permanent adoptive placements. The role involves working with children, prospective adoptive families, child‑placing agencies, legal parties, and other stakeholders to prepare for permanency.

You will assess readiness for adoption, address grief and attachment issues, develop information to support matching, and participate in staffing and court reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; relevant experience considered in lieu of education.
• Permanency case management experience preferred.
• Knowledge of child welfare, adoption, permanency, and casework practices.

Responsibilities

• Assess readiness for adoption and explain adoption in age-appropriate terms.
• Assist children in processing grief, loss, trauma, separation, and attachment issues.
• Identify the child’s strengths, needs, and permanency goals.
• Develop adoption-related information to support matching activities.
• Provide permanency planning and recruitment activities for children on caseload.
• Coordinate services to meet emotional, educational, medical, and permanency needs.
• Prepare reports and testimony for court with recommendations.
