Job summary

LifeLine Animal Project in Atlanta, GA seeks an Adoption Counselor to assist the public in selecting pets, review applications, collect fees, and process adoptions at Community Animal Center.

You will welcome visitors, provide exceptional customer service, perform meet-and-greets, coordinate with clinic staff, and maintain accurate records in shelter software; weekend/holiday shifts required.

• Comfortable with dogs and cats of all sizes.
• Follow safety protocols and handle challenging situations calmly.
• Collaborate across departments for shelter operations.
• Adapt to changing circumstances and stay composed under pressure.
• Experience with seeing animals that have been abused or neglected.

Responsibilities

• Guide adopters through the application process and match potential adopters to pets.
• Answer questions about pets, behavior, medical care and adoption.
• Educate about responsible pet ownership and preventive care.
• Conduct meet-and-greets with dogs, cats and other animals.
• Manage visitor flow for a positive experience.
• Assess animals and direct inquiries to the right area.
• Triage medical needs and escalate emergencies as needed.
• Assist with check-in procedures and directing visitors to staff.
• Process adoption paperwork, fees and payments.
• Maintain records in shelter software.
• Assist with owner surrender counseling and resources.
• Update and manage visitor logs.
