Job description

Fiore Montessori School is seeking energetic, passionate candidates with a math, science or history background who are interested in joining our dedicated faculty and staff in our Adolescent Program.

Students learn by way of lessons, seminar discussions, hands‑on production and exchange "occupations" (eg on the farm or in a commercial kitchen), and through project‑based community work. As they connect through mutual physical work and common goals, taking responsibility for their indoor and outdoor environment while contributing to their local community, they also explore advanced concepts in the humanities (literature, history, geography guided by one teacher), and science/math (guided by a second teacher). Through these disciplines, they continue to develop into well‑prepared young adults, ultimately becoming high level achievers and successful members of society. (For more information on the Montessori adolescent philosophy please see our website here, and to learn about available training click here.)

Conveniently located on 4.5 rural acres just 20 miles outside of Washington DC, our renovated "village‑style" multi‑building campus holds tremendous opportunities for development of the program, including two adolescent classrooms, a commercial kitchen, a fully equipped "maker" space, an art and music studio building, gardens, undeveloped open land, a basketball court, a soccer field and a swimming pool. Neighboring property includes a farm with a Farmer’s Market (CSA/Community Supported Agriculture) selling produce and eggs.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree. An AMI Diploma for ages 12-18 or 6-12 is ideal but appropriate candidates who are willing to take the AMI training will also be considered. Experience working with and/or teaching to middle or high school students is a plus. In addition, the ideal applicant must demonstrate strong spoken and written communication skills, humility, professionalism, integrity and respect for adolescents.

Salary is commensurate with education, experience and roles/responsibilities. Benefits include health, matching 401k, 8 wks vacation plus holidays, and tuition for children. Fiore offers professional development and growth opportunities, and will sponsor the right candidate for adolescent training!
