Job summary

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking a Patient Coordinator to support adolescents by supervising the therapeutic environment and coordinating care with RNs, Behavioral Health Technicians, and therapists.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed care, patient education groups, and de-escalation techniques, with opportunities to mentor staff and contribute to improvement projects.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Requires an Associate degree in psychology, social work, or related field.
• Minimum of two years of behavioral health experience.
• Experience facilitating patient education or therapeutic groups.
• Ability to verbally de-escalate patient behaviors.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe, trauma-informed, patient-centered therapeutic environment.
• Provides continuous patient supervision, interaction, support, and positive role modeling.
• Uses therapeutic communication, problem-solving, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques.
• Encourages patients to participate in educational groups and therapeutic activities.
• Facilitates patient education groups and other approved activities.
• Conducts routine safety checks and identifies potentially unsafe items or conditions.
• Reports changes to the Registered Nurse and supports treatment planning.
• Completes required documentation accurately per hospital policy.
• Provides shift handoffs and communicates important patient/unit information.
• Serves as a preceptor for new employees and supports committees and process improvement.
