Job summary

University of Missouri-Columbia seeks a Student Support Specialist in Admissions to work on the Mizzou campus. The role focuses on evaluating student records and applications and advising applicants, including families, while coordinating with high school counselors to support the admission process.

  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary
  • Excellent communication via phone and email; ability to counsel applicants and families and coordinate with high school counselors
  • Familiarity with higher education systems and data entry in university databases preferred

Job description

Job Description

This is analytical, detail-oriented work involving the evaluation and processing of student records, applications and other data for the purposes of admission to the University. This includes applications from freshman, transfers, visiting students, and students requesting readmission.

  • Review files of applicants, determining admissibility; request and or prepare all correspondence to applicants and manage files of more than 2,000 applicants.
  • Answer telephone and e-mail correspondence. Counsel and give advice to applicants, and occasionally their parents, as well as communication with high school counselors regarding specific applicant issues.
  • Process transfer and test credit evaluations, including entering test score data into system.
  • Enter high school core courses, college courses, and other data from applications and transcripts, correct data and problem solve with procedural and data entry problems.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Requires clear understanding of higher education practices. Knowledge and experience with PeopleSoft, Slate, and document imaging is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $15.50 - $17.00 hourly

Grade: GGS-6
