Job summary

Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana’s Canal Pointe program seeks an Admission Counselor (LMSW/PLPC/RAC/CAC/CIT) to lead residential admissions and coordinate Medicaid applications for residents seeking services. The role involves conducting assessments, ensuring ASAM levels of care align with medical necessity, and maintaining accurate documentation in the EHR.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work or counseling is required or equivalent licensure.
• Experience with individuals experiencing substance use disorders is preferred.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices is preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality requirements.
• Must pass criminal history and drug screening as required by agency policies.
• TB screening, First Aid, CPR training and ongoing competency.
• Flexible schedule including Saturdays and occasional evenings.

Responsibilities

• Conduct admissions for residents and complete Medicaid applications per Louisiana requirements.
• Complete prior authorizations and concurrent reviews with MCOs based on ASAM levels of care.
• Provide direct counseling (individual, family, and group) to residents.
• Develop and update person-centered care plans with residents.
• Document accurately in the EHR within 1 business day and communicate deadlines to staff.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation and funding source requirements.
