POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
As an Admission Counselor at Antioch College, you won’t just recruit students—you’ll identify and empower the next generation of changemakers. Your work will directly contribute to building a diverse community of learners who embrace Antioch’s mission of linking scholarship with social justice, experiential learning, and community engagement.
This role involves domestic travel and creative territory management to connect with students who thrive in Antioch’s unique, action-oriented liberal arts environment. You’ll collaborate with a mission-driven team to develop innovative recruitment strategies that reflect our values and vision for transformative education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (RESPONSIBILITIES) OF THE POSITION:
- Champion Antioch’s Mission: Represent the College at college fairs, high schools, and community events, articulating how Antioch’s education model prepares students to “win victories for humanity.”
- Build Authentic Relationships: Guide prospective students and families—with particular attention to underrepresented communities—through the admission process with empathy and transparency.
- Assess for Mission Alignment: Evaluate applications holistically, seeking students whose goals resonate with Antioch’s commitment to social justice, sustainability, and experiential learning.
- Innovate Outreach: Develop and execute recruitment plans (virtual and in-person) that highlight Antioch’s distinctive approach to education as a tool for social change.
- Collaborate for Impact: Partner with faculty, staff, and student ambassadors to create inclusive campus visit experiences that showcase Antioch’s vibrant community.
- Data-Informed Practice: Maintain accurate records in CRM (Slate) systems while centering the human stories behind each application.
- Travel with Purpose: Spend 8-12 weeks annually visiting schools and communities to identify students who will thrive at Antioch.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Deep Alignment with Antioch’s Values: Passion for progressive education, social justice, and the belief that diversity is fundamental to academic excellence.
- Relationship-Building Skills: Ability to connect authentically with students from all backgrounds, especially first-generation, low-income, and marginalized communities.
- Adaptive Problem-Solving: Comfort navigating ambiguity and creating solutions that honor both institutional goals and individual student needs.
- Communication Excellence: Strong written and verbal skills to articulate Antioch’s unique educational model compellingly.
Preferred Experience:
- 0-2 years in admissions, recruitment, or equivalent transferable experience
- Customer service
- Public Speaking
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (all disciplines welcome—we value interdisciplinary perspectives)
- Valid driver’s license (must obtain Ohio license within 30 days of hire)
- Ability to work evenings/weekends and travel extensively (10-20% time)
