Duties
  • Process, sort, and distribute daily physical and electronic incoming and outgoing mail and packages
  • Provide front-desk or visitor center coverage, responding to routine public inquiries via telephone, email, and in-person contact
  • Prepare, edit, and finalize correspondence
  • Maintain the central filing system for official records, agency manuals, and directives; research and locate reference information; and resolve issues related to missing materials or filing errors
  • Track, distribute, and inventory local assets
  • Serve as collections officer which includes managing receipts, deposits, reconciliations and transfers
  • Assist with budget and finance; manage receipts, deposits, reconciliations and transfers; manage vehicle dispatch, maintenance and reports; and track, distribute, and inventory local assets
  • Support natural resource programs by executing database transactions, managing project files, and compiling program data into clear reports, charts, and presentations

To Qualify For The GS-05

Specialized Experience

Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors). Examples of specialized experience include: answering routine inquiries, greeting visitors, and routing physical or digital mail; entering customer or transaction data into tracking logs or databases; filing records and reviewing basic business correspondence for formatting accuracy; processing point-of-sale customer transactions, collecting fees, and balancing a daily cash drawer.

To Qualify For The GS-06

Specialized Experience

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors).

Duties

Examples of qualifying specialized experience must include performing administrative, clerical, and customer support duties (such as handling correspondence, mail, filing, and public contact) plus one of the following specialized functions (or a combination thereof):
  • Property: Tracking, inventorying, and maintaining database accountability for organizational equipment or assets.
  • Collections & Finance: Serving as a collections officer or financial clerk responsible for receiving monies, logging deposits, reconciling multi-account records, or tracking office budgets and expenditures.
  • Natural Resources: Inputting data, managing files, and compiling reports or presentations for natural resource, environmental, land-use, or permitting programs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands

The work is mostly sedentary. There is occasional carrying of light objects such as files, books, and paperwork. There are no special physical requirements required.

Work Environment

The work is performed in an office setting. The work environment involves everyday risks which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, or commercial vehicles. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and air conditioned. Occasional travel is required. The incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer.

Applicants may qualify for these positions based on experience, education, or an equivalent combination as described in the Qualifications section of this announcement.

As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
