Position Location:Montgomery, Alabama
The Special Education Services (SES) Section of the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) is seeking to fill one (1) Administrative Support Assistant III position.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Provides high-level administrative support to assigned team members and leadership.
- Assumes significant administrative responsibility and performs general duties as requested.
- Responds to and resolves internal and external administrative inquiries and questions.
- Creates, prepares, and formats professional documents, including letters, presentations, and reports.
- Designs and maintains spreadsheets to track and organize important information.
- Collects data from diverse sources—such as emails, correspondence, meeting minutes, and records—and prepares concise summaries or written reports.
- Conducts targeted research to support ongoing projects or inquiries.
- Welcomes, greets, and directs visitors.
- Answers and routes incoming phone calls, screening and taking messages as necessary.
- Prepares agendas and schedules for meetings, conferences, and special events.
- Attends meetings to take, transcribe, and distribute accurate minutes and notes.
- Utilizes advanced office technology and software platforms—such as DocuSign, time and attendance systems, and state procurement portals—and trains others on their use.
- Orients and advises new employees on departmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Collaborates with employees to resolve workflow issues, coordinates tasks, and solves operational problems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or a GED certificate.
- Five years of progressively responsible clerical work experience.

- Able to coach and support other clerical staff.
Currently, the Fiscal Team has a clerical vacancy; however, clerical staff may be assigned to any team as needed and reassigned based on section priorities.
