Administrative Specialist I (Personnel) - Central Prison

Join to apply for the Administrative Specialist I (Personnel) - Central Prison role at State of North Carolina.

This is an internal posting open only to current North Carolina State Government employees and eligible RIF candidates from NC State Government.

Job Duties

Reporting to Administrative Officer I, this position provides administrative support to a multi-custody male correctional facility, including Human Resources duties such as Personnel Action Requests. Responsibilities include:

  • Answering telephones, directing calls, and delivering messages.
  • Managing Worker's Compensation claims, including logs and summaries.
  • Handling Leave of Absence (LOA), Family Medical Leave (FML), and separations.
  • Serving as benefits liaison during onboarding and open enrollment.
  • Managing the hiring process and keying employee actions into FIORI system.
  • Administering time and leave management via FIORI.
  • Correcting time entries and troubleshooting payroll issues.
  • Overseeing accrual and use of compensatory time and managing adverse weather leave liabilities.
  • Providing policy information to employees regarding time, leave, and benefits, including retirement preparations.

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with state benefits, working Monday-Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, with possible overtime as needed.

Effective January 1, 2025, the salary range will be $37,782 - $66,120, based on recent increases approved by the State Human Resources Commission.

Current state employees are encouraged to apply; salary will be recalculated considering relevant experience, education, funding, and internal equity, which may result in a pay increase.

About Central Prison

Located in Raleigh, NC, Central Prison has served since 1884. It houses adult male felons, including death row, and serves as the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. The facility offers various employment and rehabilitation programs for offenders.
