Job summary

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) in Baton Rouge, LA, seeks an Administrative Program Specialist B to support the Administrative, Training, and Safety Services section with broad administrative duties and independent judgement under direction from the Administrative Program Specialist C.

Ideal candidates will bring strong records management, risk assessment, and data analysis skills, plus the ability to coordinate with regional offices and executives.

Qualifications

  • Four years of experience in administrative services; OR
  • Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in administrative services; OR
  • A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in administrative services; OR
  • An advanced degree.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records for state reporting and audit purposes.
  • Compile incident and accident data into monthly reports for quarterly presentation to Executive Staff and Regional Administrators.
  • Create, maintain, and post Job Safety Analyses (JSA) in accordance with DCFS safety policy.
  • Request and track additional documentation from regional offices as needed for claims processing and vehicle repairs.
  • Collaborate with regional representatives to assess risk to staff when threats occur and determine appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Complete annual safety audits at the request of the state insurance provider.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Join Our Team at DCFS: Administrative Program Specialist B

This position is located within the Administrative. Training. and Safety Services section of the Division of Management and Finance. Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). The incumbent will exercise a wide latitude of independent judgement in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the position with broad administrative direction from the Administrative Program Specialist C.

AN IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Four years of experience in administrative services; OR
  • Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in administrative services; OR
  • A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in administrative services; OR
  • An advanced degree.
Experience Substitution

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties

Position-Specific Details
  • Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. This position may be filled as a probational appointment or a job appointment that may last up to 48 months. Job appointments may convert to probational appointments. Also, it may be filled as a detail and promoted within 12 months or by promotion of a permanent classified employee.
  • Works Schedule: Typically, work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Flexible work schedules are available after meeting certain criteria and is dependent upon the position you are applying for. Some positions require working shifts.
  • Work Location: Baton Rouge, LA
  • Louisiana HB 420 requires all prospective DCFS employees to complete and clear multiple background clearances prior to employment with this agency.
