Description
The Lutheran Center (national office) is located in Chicago, Illinois. A staff of 400, under the leadership of the Presiding Bishop, serve as administrators, advisors, conveners, partners, and resource people for the ELCA and its ministries. Staff lead the work of national, domestic, and global ministries and programs including Lutheran Disaster Response, ELCA World Hunger, Service & Justice, Christian Community and Leadership, and Innovation. We are also home to five of our separately incorporated ministries: The Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA, Women of the ELCA, Lutheran Men in Mission, the ELCA Foundation, and the ELCA Federal Credit Union.

The position is responsible for performing complex administrative duties for the Vision Team. It involves handling highly confidential matters, requiring professionalism and sound judgment in communication with colleagues and external partners. This is a full-time, term-contract (through January 31, 2031, with possibility of renewal), exempt, remote position.

Candidates must reside within the fifty United States or D.C., be authorized to work in the U.S., and complete employment verification upon hire.

Responsibilities
  1. Process expense reports, invoices, contract payments, and reimbursements; knowledge of Workday.
  2. Create monthly budget reports and contribute to budgeting discussions.
  3. Manage contracts and grants, initiate payments, and maintain related portals.
  4. Coordinate schedules, meetings, and events for the Vision Team.
  5. Record meeting minutes for key meetings and events.
  6. Arrange travel for team members and meetings.
  7. Serve as liaison to organizational departments.
  8. Prepare and distribute emails, reports, and communications.
  9. Support evaluation of ministries and assist with special projects.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Initiative, adaptability, and quick learning ability.
  • 3+ years of administrative experience, proficiency in Microsoft Office, familiarity with Workday.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise tact, and collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with ELCA and its organizational structure.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
  • Alignment with ELCA’s mission, vision, and values.
Physical & Travel Requirements

Regular talking, hearing, computer use; sitting for long periods; occasional lifting up to 15 pounds; reasonable accommodations available. Travel as needed, with valid driver’s license required.

Salary & Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include health premiums, FSA, HSA with employer contribution, life insurance, 403b plan with employer contribution, paid time off, and holidays. Benefits start on your first day.
