STATE DEPARTMENT FEDERAL CREDIT UNION is seeking an AP/ATM Staff Accountant to support accounts payable and debit card/ATM network settlement. You will maintain daily postings, assist with adjustments, and ensure accurate accounting records for member transactions.

The role involves processing check returns, resolving exceptions, and coordinating with FRB on adjustments, all while meeting deadlines in a high-volume environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of credit union or banking experience.
• Two-year degree or equivalent in work experience.
• Two years check processing experience with knowledge of check rules.
• Intermediate Microsoft Office experience, especially Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication and attention to detail.

This role is responsible for all aspects of Accounts Payable and ensuring appropriate expenditure classification and proper management authorization to support the financial operations of the Credit Union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. The AP/ATM Staff Accountant also maintains the daily Debit Card/ATM Network Settlement and is responsible for analyzing the ATM cash vaults for over 20 credit union ATMs and performs accounting duties of moderate to intermediate complexity in accordance with standard procedures and under moderate supervision.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Reviews, prepares, and processes member account adjustments received from credit union personnel. Analyzes account status, calculates required adjustments, posts entries, and completes supporting documentation.Balances daily adjustment postings to the core system.Processes check returns and check exceptions.Verifies adjustments completed by the BOT.Researches, opens, and processes Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) check adjustment cases.Analyzes prior-day unposted share and loan checks and exceptions to determine pay or no-pay decisions.Balances daily in-clearing and transit check files against SDFCU postings.Processes deposited items returned by the Federal Reserve Bank, including verifying transactions, preparing the log, posting adjustments, and forwarding the log and supporting documentation to Accounting.Processes check returns, assesses applicable fees, notifies members as needed, and maintains related files.Prepares check posting error corrections and submits credit requests to the Federal Reserve Bank.Required Skills and Competencies:Minimum of three years of credit union or banking experience requiredTwo-year degree or equivalent in work experienceMinimum of two years check processing experience required, including demonstrated knowledge of check rules and regulationsIntermediate Microsoft Office experience, emphasis on Microsoft Excel skillsSound judgment and ability to make knowledgeable and independent decisionsAttention to detail and ensuring accuracy of work and exceptional organizational skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work with multiple daily deadlines under high pressureResolving function-related problems, including check, hardware/software and batch balancing issues
