Job summary

Syracuse University is seeking a Part-Time Professor to teach SCE 718: Curriculum Problems in Science. This on-campus role supports elementary to junior and senior high school teachers, focusing on curriculum development and classroom units.

Responsibilities include syllabus updates, lectures, student assessments, and timely grading. Master’s degree is required; Ph.D. preferred. Salary is paid per credit hour with 8.5 months’ pay and on-campus presence.

Qualifications

• Earned master’s degree in Science Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field, with classroom teaching experience in elementary or secondary science.
• Demonstrated ability to guide practicing teachers in developing and refining curriculum, units of work, and course sequences based on their own classroom needs.
• Prior experience teaching or mentoring K-12 teachers in a graduate or professional development setting is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
• Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
• Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
• Meeting all designated class periods and notifying absences with a plan to cover the class.
• Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
• Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
• Collecting and submitting student assessment data for accreditation purposes.
• Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
• Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
