Responsibilities

  • Notify of any class or meeting absences promptly.

Adjunct, Personal Enrichment
Position Summary

This position will be responsible for teaching non-credit courses for the Personal Enrichment/Lifelong Learning program within the Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) Department. Personal Enrichment Adjunct Faculty shall teach proposed or existing courses approved by the program manager and director. Instructors generally teach 1 to 2 courses a term based upon their area of expertise. Courses vary in length and do not follow traditional course length semesters. Courses taught are generally proposed by the instructor as this program has no set curriculum (except for Motorcycle Safety). Area of expertise should be clearly outlined in their application, cover letter, or resume. Course topics taught in this program include:

  • Cooking and Baking
  • Health and Wellness
  • Photography
  • Writing
  • Language
  • Painting and Drawing
  • Jewelry-Making
  • Woodworking
  • General Crafting and Hobby
  • Motorcycle Safety
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Propose course and plan detailed, relevant, progressive lesson plans to engage students.
  2. Provide course descriptions and learning objectives to the Program Manager.
  3. Provide differentiated instruction to meet the various needs and levels of students.
  4. Promote cooperation and mutual respect among students.
  5. Provide master copies or lists for instructional materials in a complete and timely manner to allow preparation and distribution.
  6. Provide timely notice if unable to attend class or scheduled meetings.
  7. Submit class evaluations and other documents as directed by program staff.
  8. Participate as required in student complaint process.
  9. Support the stated mission, policies, and procedures for Frederick Community College.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  1. Appropriate certifications, degrees and/or experience required to teach course offered.
  2. Previous experience teaching.
  3. Basic computer skills necessary for utilizing technology in the classroom.
Desired Qualifications
  1. Previous experience teaching personal enrichment classes.
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.
