Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Marine Transportation or related field.
• Third Mate license with current STCW qualifications.
• At least three years of professional maritime experience.
• Understanding of university-level teaching.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Understand the university's mission as a maritime academy.

General Responsibilities

Instruct college-level Marine Transportation courses. Preferred specializations include navigation, ship-handling and shipboard safety, seamanship, and watchstanding. Potentialcourse taught may include Integrated Navigation, Advanced Shiphandling, Coastal Navigation and Electronic Navigation. Massachusetts Maritime Academy follows a 'Learn-Do-Learn' model, where our hands‑on simulation labs and classroom experiences enable our students to 'apply' textbook knowledge in the field.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Transportation or related field;
• Hold a Third Mate license with current Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) qualifications.
• Have at least three years of professional maritime experience
• Possess an understanding of teaching in the university setting
• Exhibit excellent oral and written communications skills
• Understand the unique mission of the university as a maritime academy

Preferred Qualifications

• Holder a master's degree in Marine Transportation or related field.
• Have at least three years of maritime experience or teaching experience at an accredited institution of higher learning

Salary

Pay is based on the number of credits taught at a rate of $2,343.75/credit. The semester credit load is variable, typically between 3 and 11 credits, depending on departmental needs and candidate's expertise.
