Southern University Shreveport, Inc invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor of Literacy to teach undergraduate and/or graduate literacy courses. The position is part-time unclassified with per-course compensation ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on course scope and credentials.

The instructor will align instruction with evidence-based practices, support diverse learners, and coordinate field experiences with local campuses.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Literacy, Reading Education, ELA, Education or related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in education, literacy instruction, ELA, or related area.
• Current or previously held certification in English Language Arts or closely related teaching field.
• Must meet SACSCOC requirements for teaching courses within the assigned academic discipline.
• Demonstrated knowledge of literacy instruction, evidence-based instructional practices, and the Science of Reading.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and support diverse learners in an academic or educational setting.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver course content in alignment with SOE curriculum, ensuring academic rigor and relevance.
• Utilize University-approved systems for course facilitation, recordkeeping, assessment, and communication.
• Systems may include Canvas, Banner, EAB Navigate, Teams, Watermark, and Microsoft Education.
• Facilitate designated field experience hours for students and liaise with local campuses.
• Adhere to the assessment blueprint when administering midterm and final assessments.
• Maintain accurate course, student, assessment, and field records.
• Provide students with timely feedback, guidance, and support on assignments and field experiences.
• Maintain communication with students, leadership, and school personnel regarding requirements.
• Adhere to reporting requirements and deadlines per academic calendar.
• Perform other related instructional duties in support of the SOE.

Education

Master's degree in Literacy, Reading Education, English Language Arts, Education, or a closely related field

Doctoral degree in Literacy, Reading Education, English Language Arts, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field
