Responsibilities

  • Develop welding program curriculum aligned with industry credentials and outcomes.
  • Mentor students, monitor progress, and provide tutoring as needed.
  • Prepare accreditation and assessment reporting for the college and directors.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for instructing students in required technical and academic courses necessary for the pursuit of certificates and associate degrees in Welding Technology. Adjunct instructors in this role can teach 3 to 12 credit hours per semester. The incumbent will also be required to complete all necessary assessment reports related to the course(s) taught at the request of the college or Academic Director as it relates to accreditation and assessment.

Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • I** nstructional Delivery:** Prepares and presents course descriptions, lesson plans, and classroom/laboratory lectures; implements safety-focused and student-active learning techniques. Supports students and prepares them to qualify for AWS certifications.
  • Travel Requirements: Regular travel to regional school districts, dual-credit high school partners, and satellite campuses is required to deliver instruction and manage program pathways.
  • Assessment & Grading: Prepares and grades assignments, practical welding tests, and quizzes; develops handouts, multimedia tools, and other learning aids.
  • Curriculum Development: Participates in welding program and curriculum development, ensuring alignment with industry micro-credentials and outcome assessments.
  • Student Mentorship: Provides one-to-one student supervision, safety monitoring, technical coaching, advising, and tutoring.
  • Progress Tracking: Analyzes and documents student progress; coordinates and schedules student tutors as appropriate.
  • Accreditation Reporting: Provides necessary assessment and accreditation reporting as identified by the college and/or the Academic Director at the end of each teaching semester.
  • Departmental Support: Provides support to the department related to program reviews and end-of-year reports regarding assessment and accreditation.
  • Lab Environment: Maintains a safe, positive, and compliant lab and classroom environment conducive to student learning.
  • Recruitment & Engagement: Participates in student recruitment, dual-credit outreach, retention, and workforce placement efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of welding technology, industrial fabrication, and specialized lab equipment operation.
  • LMS Proficiency: Technical knowledge of, or the ability to be trained in, the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) for course delivery and grade tracking.
  • Pedagogy: Knowledge of adult-learning theory, curriculum development, and classroom, laboratory, and field presentation techniques.
  • Student Support: Knowledge of counseling, advising methods, and mentoring techniques for a diverse student population.
  • Safety Enforcement: Deep understanding of industry safety standards and the ability to strictly enforce safety protocol compliance within a dynamic lab environment.
  • Mobility: Ability to deliver courses in-person at various locations and via online platforms as needed and identified by the college.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to bridge secondary school districts, satellite hubs, and higher education.
  • Technology: Proficient in the use of standard office equipment and applications, including Microsoft Office 365, Google Workspace, and associated college platforms.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL FACTORS
  • Physical Demand: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move tools, materials, and equipment. Position requires standing, walking, and demonstrating welding maneuvers for a significant portion of the workday.
  • Visual Acuity: Required to have close and detailed visual acuity to evaluate structural welds, inspect equipment compliance, analyze data, and view computer terminals.
  • Travel Commitment: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to fulfill mandatory travel requirements across regional school districts and satellite campuses.
  • Environmental Exposure: Exposure to standard welding lab environments (e.g., fumes, sparks, heat); compliance with and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
  • Industry Credentials: A minimum of two (2) valid AWS (American Welding Society) certifications is required.
  • Professional Experience: At least three (3) years of verifiable, hands-on industry experience in Welding Technology or a closely related industrial fabrication field is required.
  • Instructional Background: Prior experience delivering welding instruction in a secondary, post-secondary, or corporate apprenticeship setting is highly preferred.
  • Safety Certification: Ability to obtain an OSHA 10 (or higher) certification within 90 days of hire is required.
