Job description

About this role

Responsible for providing instruction and performing lab‑related activities for a variety of welding processes, including OFC, PAW, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and pipe welding, within the college program. This role involves teaching college students in accordance with educational theories and techniques, developing discipline‑related curricula, assessing student learning, participating in program evaluation, and serving on committees. The instructor spends approximately 80% of the time teaching and 20% of the time handling classroom administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in accordance with published descriptions, schedules, procedures, and outlines.
  • Assess students’ proficiency, conduct ongoing evaluation, prepare grade reports, and maintain records of course performance.
  • Design and prepare curriculum materials and deliver online training content to support classroom instruction.
  • Follow established safety practices and perform basic equipment maintenance per OSHA and related standards.
  • Plan and document current and future inventory needs and assist in preparing specifications for materials, supplies, and equipment purchases.
  • Perform all welding and cutting processes (OFC, PAW, SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, pipe welding) for demonstration and testing during lab activities, in accordance with AWS and NCCER specifications.
  • Demonstrate conduit destructive and non‑destructive analysis procedures in a lab environment, following AWS protocols.
  • Manage, control, and dispose of hazardous materials within the lab.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher in welding technology or related discipline, or equivalent industry training culminating in an industry‑recognized credential.
  • Two or more years of related industry experience.
  • Current or past AWS or NCCER certification, or other relevant certification.
  • Knowledge of OFC, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and pipe welding processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time and task management, and interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret blueprint and related symbols and to demonstrate the use of technology in the classroom.
  • Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and across multiple campuses if required.
  • Regular physical attendance required.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency for engaging a diverse student and employee population.
Additional Job Details
  • Minimum base pay: $50,000 annually (may vary based on education and experience).
  • Work environment: lift objects up to 49lb; occasional lifts over 50lb; reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; stand for extended periods; use of video display terminals; manual dexterity; communication tasks; exposure to extreme temperatures and noise; fluctuating schedule.
