Simpson University’s Department of Digital Media & Communication seeks an adjunct instructor to teach undergraduate courses in communication, digital media, and related areas. Experience with Canvas and online or hybrid delivery is preferred. Indicate willingness to teach in person in Northern California.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or terminal degree in a related field preferred.
  • Professional experience in digital media, communication, journalism, public relations, or related fields preferred.
  • One to three years of college teaching preferred.
  • Proficiency in relevant digital media tools and platforms preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned undergraduate courses in person, with hybrid or online formats as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging content—lectures, discussions, labs, and project-based learning.
  • Advise and mentor students; provide timely feedback and support.
  • Utilize Canvas and instructional technologies to support learning.
  • Submit assessments, final grades, attendance, and required reports in a timely manner.

Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience teaching in institutions of higher education. Qualifications
  • Master’s degree, MFA, Ph.D., or other appropriate terminal degree in Digital Media, Communication, Journalism, Strategic Communication, Multimedia, Media Arts, Digital Media, or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Professional experience in digital media, communication, journalism, public relations, marketing, multimedia production, or a related field is preferred.
  • One to three years of teaching experience at the college level is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in relevant digital media tools, technologies, and platforms appropriate to the courses being taught is preferred.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are required, particularly in working with a diverse student population that includes many first-generation college students.
  • Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas and online or hybrid course delivery is preferred.
  • Commitment to integrating Christian faith with teaching and scholarship and supporting the mission of Simpson University is preferred.

Essential Functions
  • Teach assigned undergraduate courses in person and, as needed, in hybrid or online formats.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging course content, including lectures, discussions, demonstrations, labs, and project-based learning activities.
  • Conduct essential teaching responsibilities, including course preparation, instruction, assessment and grading, timely feedback, and student academic support.
  • Advise and mentor students in their academic, creative, and professional development. While adjunct faculty are not required to hold on‑campus office hours, they are expected to be available to students through Microsoft Teams, email, phone, or other approved communication methods.
  • Utilize the University’s learning management system (Canvas) and other instructional technologies to support student learning and maintain course materials.
  • Meet with the Chair of the Digital Media & Communication Department as needed.
  • Submit course assessments, final grades, attendance records, and other required reports in a timely manner.
  • Comply with all University policies, procedures, and expectations, including those related to academic integrity, student privacy, and instructional excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
