Job description

Adjunct Instructor – Law Enforcement Academy

This position is a part‑time adjunct faculty opening in the Law Enforcement Academy. The role requires a satisfactory criminal history background check and, for male applicants aged 18‑25, registration with the Selective Service System. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach approved courses in the law enforcement discipline.
  • Provide instruction that facilitates student acquisition of specific learning outcomes.
  • Mentor students inside and outside the classroom.
  • Create and maintain an effective learning environment in face‑to‑face, hybrid, online/Zoom, or dual credit modalities.
  • Prepare instructional materials, assign and grade assessments, provide timely feedback, and respond promptly to student communications.
  • Adhere to all College policies and procedures.
  • Attend adjunct faculty meetings and complete required training.
  • Assess courses at departmental and institutional levels, and complete any other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Education

  • Associate degree and/or 2‑5 years work experience in the field of study.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 6‑10 years work experience or credentialed in the field.
  • Master’s degree and/or 11‑15 years work experience or credentialed in the field.
  • Doctorate degree and/or 16+ years work experience or credentialed in the field.
  • Minimum Southern Association of Colleges and Schools credential standards for faculty teaching workforce certification or degree completion courses.

Required Experience

  • Five years full‑time verifiable paid experience with a law enforcement agency.
  • Minimum TCOLE Advanced Peace Officer license, to be submitted with application.

Preferred Education

  • TCOLE Instructor License, TCOLE Firearms Instructor License, TCOLE SFST Instructor License, NAPD or TEEX Driving Instructor License, Mental Health Peace Officer.

Preferred Experience

  • Advanced peace officer qualifications and related teaching experience.

  • Instructional proficiency in face‑to‑face, hybrid, online, and dual credit courses.
  • Ability to meet learning goals and objectives of assigned courses.
  • Strong classroom management and creation of a professional learning environment.
  • Effective communication with students, faculty, administration, and community groups.
