Job Description Summary
Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the on‑going development of instructional strategies that promote student success.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Learning Facilitation — Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
- Assessment — Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
- Classroom Management — Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student engagement evaluation.
- Team Participation — Support the college by engaging with the department, and staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
- Business & Community Engagement — Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.
- Student Success & Support — Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
- Professional Development — Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
- Curriculum Development — If needed, develop curriculum and instructional materials that are competency‑based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on the level of required documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Technical Diploma required (Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of two (2) years full‑time (or 4,000 total hours if part‑time) of occupational experience in a target job for the program or programs being taught. One year (or 2,000 hours) shall be within five (5) years prior to the date of appointment. One year (or 2,000 hours) may be waived for occupational instructors with at least two (2) years of post‑secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five (5) years prior to the date of appointment. 3‑5 years occupational experience preferred.
- Law Enforcement Academy adjunct applicants must have at a minimum completed the Department of Justice’s Instructor Development course, and possess the proper certifications from the Department of Justice for the Academy topics being taught.
- Teaching or training experience is desirable.
- Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.
- Upon hire, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.

Work Environment
- Work may be performed in a classroom, online, outdoors during both daytime and nighttime hours, in all weather conditions in and around traffic, or in a hybrid environment, both in person and virtually.
Physical Requirements
- Mobility: ability to move around the classroom or instructional space, including walking between students’ desks or workstations; standing for long periods of time inside; sometimes in inclement weather.
- Standing and Sitting: capability to stand for extended periods during lectures or demonstrations, and ability to sit for grading, office hours, and administrative tasks.
- Lifting and Carrying: may need to lift and carry teaching materials, equipment, or props.
- Speech and Hearing: clear speech and ability to hear students’ questions and interactions.
- Fine Motor Skills: may need precise hand movements for writing on a whiteboard, demonstrations, or using instructional technology.
- Visual Acuity: adequate vision to read course materials, assess student work, and operate instructional equipment.
- Health and Safety: ensure a safe learning environment, respond to emergencies, address physical hazards.
- Communication: clear verbal and written communication skills essential for interacting with employees, candidates, and stakeholders.
