Adjunct Instructor, Chemistry

Salary Range: $1,485.00 per credit for MA/MS; $1,686.00 per credit for Ph.D. or Terminal Degree. Labs are compensated at a rate of 1.5 credits per section.

Job Purpose

Gonzaga University is searching for adjunct instructors to join the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry for the upcoming semester. Teaching duties will include general chemistry lab(s). Ideal applicants will demonstrate a commitment to promoting inclusive and equity‑minded learning environments and the potential for excellence in teaching undergraduates from a variety of backgrounds and identities, including those historically marginalized in the sciences (e.g., first‑generation students, students from low‑income families, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities). Total teaching load will be up to 3-5 labs for the semester.

Essential Functions
  • Teach general chemistry labs, following the lab syllabus, sequencing, structure, and guidance provided by the Department Chair – Essential
  • Grade lab‑related materials, attend weekly meetings with the General Chemistry team, submit grades in a timely manner – Essential
  • Hold weekly office hours (amount determined in consultation with Department Chair) – Essential
Minimum Qualifications
  • M.S. in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related field
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the ability to effectively respond to the academic needs of learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Evidence of the ability to use effective classroom strategies and pedagogies to advance equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related field

  • In‑Office Presence – Ability to work on‑site in typical office setting and participate in in‑person meetings with colleagues: 5 days/week
