Job summary

College of Lake County seeks an Adjunct Faculty member to deliver hands-on welding and fabrication instruction in the Advanced Technology Center. Classes may include evenings or Saturdays, with sessions at the Grayslake Campus.

The instructor will teach to industry standards, assess student performance, and maintain safe, engaging labs. AWS certification and substantial welding hours are required for eligibility.

Qualifications

• Welding Fabrication Technology (WFT) – EGRDV Associate's degree or A.A.S. in Welding with AWS certification and 6,000–14,000 hours experience.
• AWS Welding Certification is required for all listed pathways.
• At least 10,000 hours of welding experience (for first option) or 6,000+ hours (second) or 14,000+ hours (third).

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in welding and fabrication as scheduled each semester.
• Maintain safety and a clean, well-managed lab environment.
• Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback on assignments and exams.
• Develop and update instructional materials and syllabi aligned with outcomes.
• Attend adjunct meetings and complete compliance trainings as required.

Position Title: Adjunct Faculty, Welding and Fabrication

Job Summary: The instructor will be responsible for preparing and delivering hands-on instruction relative to welding and fabrication industry standards as prepared by the department. This includes, but is not limited to safety, welding theory & techniques, evaluating student performance and maintaining a safe, engaging class and lab environment.

Class meeting times may include Saturdays and/or evening hours and take place in CLC's Advanced Technology Center.

Job Description: Teach courses in discipline, as scheduled each academic semester, using a variety of student centered, culturally relevant instructional methods to support diverse learning styles and student needs. Meet all classes at assigned location and times. If unable to meet an assigned class reports absence to supervisor and academic division staff in an appropriate manner. Develop, revise, and maintain instructional materials, course content, and syllabi that align with departmental standards and student learning outcomes. Observe and evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, discussions, and projects. Provide timely and constructive feedback. Support student retention and success by identifying at-risk students, providing instructional support, and referring students to appropriate college services. Be available for student consultation through phone or email. Use approved College standardized system(s) to provide students and the division with a syllabus that includes course objectives, learning outcomes, attendance policies, required materials, timelines, and evaluation criteria. Deliver course content using inclusive teaching strategies and incorporate instructional technology, including the Learning Management System (LMS) and other digital tools. Encourage and review student course evaluations to improve teaching effectiveness and course delivery. Maintain accurate and timely records for grading, attendance, and other required documentation. Submit grades and related records by established deadlines. Produces appropriate grade and course records for supervisor upon request. Uphold academic integrity policies and address violations in accordance with college guidelines. Uses the appropriate college policies and procedures to resolve and document student concerns. Participate in college governance, division and departmental meetings, and, when appropriate, program advisory boards and committees. Attend required Adjunct meetings in the Fall and Spring semesters and complete all required compliance trainings (e.g., Title IX, Clery Act). Engage in professional development to stay current in instructional methods, academic discipline, and institutional policies. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, assessment, and instructional improvement. Maintain a high level of professional ethics and conduct all classes in accordance with college policies and approved instructional materials. Maintain a safe and organized classroom/laboratory environment by adhering to safety protocols, properly storing equipment and materials, and resetting lab/classroom for next class session (if applicable). Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or Associate Dean.

Requirements: Welding Fabrication Technology (WFT) – EGRDV Associate's degree and American Welding Society (AWS) certification and at least 10,000 hours of experience in the Welding industry;OR an A.A.S. in Welding and American Welding Society (AWS) Welding Certification and 6,000 or more hours of experience in the Welding industry;OR a High School diploma, AWS welding certification and 14,000 or more hours of Welding experience
