College of Lake County (CLC) invites applications for Adjunct Faculty in Community & Workforce Education. We seek innovative instructors to develop curricula and teach classes for adult learners, including industry professionals and subject matter experts.

Prior classroom teaching is not required for all opportunities, and opportunities may be for current or future needs. Schedules vary and may include daytime, evenings, and Saturdays.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated subject-matter knowledge or expertise relevant to instruction.

Job Description

Community & Workforce Education is seeking innovative, engaging instructors to develop curriculum and teach classes for adult learners. We welcome applicants with traditional teaching experience as well as industry professionals and subject matter experts who are interested in sharing their knowledge and experience with others. Prior classroom teaching experience is not required for all opportunities. This posting will be used to develop a pool of qualified instructors who may be considered for current and future Community & Workforce Education teaching needs.

Current Priority Areas

Manufacturing & Industrial Skills

Individuals with hands‑on manufacturing or industrial experience who can teach topics such as:

• Pneumatics
• Mechanical drives
• Precision measurement
• Basic electrical concepts
• Other foundational manufacturing and industrial skills

Supporting Neurodiverse Adults

Education

Individuals with experience supporting neurodiverse adults in educational, employment, community, or other settings. Potential opportunities may include instruction and programming related to:

• Career and workplace readiness
• Job training and employment skills
• Independent living and life‑management skills
• Social and interpersonal skills
• College and academic success
• Other areas that support adult learners with diverse needs

Adjunct Faculty Responsibilities

Adjunct Faculty Will

• Develop and teach assigned subjects and levels within new or existing programs.
• Fulfill administrative requirements, meet established deadlines, and complete required training.
• Remain current with required compliance training, including Title IX “Responsible Employee” requirements and, when applicable, Clery Act Campus Security Authority requirements as a condition of employment.
• Follow applicable College and department policies and procedures.

Schedule, Locations & Delivery

Schedules vary based on program needs and may include daytime, evening, and Saturday hours. Possible class locations include:

• CLC Grayslake Campus
• Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills
• Lakeshore Campus in Waukegan
• Braeloch Facility
• CLC Advanced Technology Center in Gurnee
• CLC extension sites and partner locations throughout Lake County

Courses may be delivered in person, live online via Zoom, asynchronously online, or through a hybrid format. In‑person instruction is the most common delivery method.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated subject‑matter knowledge, professional experience, or expertise relevant to the area of instruction. Teaching, training, coaching, mentoring, or facilitation experience is valued but not required for all instructional opportunities.
• Ability to communicate subject matter clearly and effectively to adult learners with varying levels of experience, knowledge, and ability.
• Ability to adapt instructional approaches and provide appropriate support to meet the needs of diverse adult learners, including individuals who may need additional guidance or alternative approaches to learning.
• Ability to successfully complete required background checks and other employment requirements, as applicable.
• Competency with, or commitment to learn and use, technologies commonly used in instruction at CLC, including Microsoft Outlook and other Microsoft applications, classroom presentation technology, Canvas Learning Management System, enrollment software, Zoom, and other instructional technologies as appropriate.
• Ability to work effectively and constructively with individuals of diverse cultures, identities, language groups, backgrounds, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and educational backgrounds of community college students, faculty, staff, and community members, including individuals with disabilities; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work.

Desired Qualifications

• Associate’s or other relevant degree in education, teaching, adult education, training and development, or a related field.
• Degree, formal education, or advanced training in the subject matter or occupational area being taught.
• Recognized industry credentials, licenses, or professional certifications relevant to the subject matter or occupational area.
• Previous experience teaching, training, facilitating, coaching, or mentoring adult learners, particularly in community college, workforce development, continuing education, corporate training, or community‑based settings.
• Professional or industry experience that demonstrates current, applied knowledge of the subject matter.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly the ability to provide instruction or learner support in more than one language.
• Experience working with adult learners from a variety of educational, professional, cultural, and ability backgrounds.
