Job summary

Ivy Tech Bloomington campus is seeking part-time Welding instructors to teach welding in a blended format. Online lectures with in-person lab sessions occur one day a week for 4 hours, with courses offered in Bloomington and Morgan County.

Adjuncts must be familiar with Shielded Metal Arc Welding (STICK), MIG, and TIG; compensation is $46.75 per contact hour and a maximum of 13 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis.
  • Ability to teach welding using blended format (online lecture, in-person labs).
  • Familiar with S.M.A.W., MIG and TIG processes and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned welding classes per course objectives.
  • Develop/outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and maintain records.
  • Engage with students and use technology to enhance instruction.
  • Ensure safety procedures for classrooms and labs are followed.

Job description

Ivy Tech Bloomington campus is searching for part time Welding instructors to teach welding starting in August. Welding courses are taught in a blended format. The lecture is online and lab is in person one day a week for 4 hours. We have welding courses during the day and evening as well as some courses are offered in Morgan County.

Individuals should be familiar with Shielded Metal Arc Welding (STICK), Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG).

Adjuncts make $46.75 per contact hour and can not teach more than 13hrs per week.

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.

School of Technology Course Standard

A qualified adjunct faculty member, including Dual Credit, Workforce Alignment, and a full-time faculty teaching outside their discipline, meets the technical course standard through one of four routes:

Option 1:
  • minimum is associates degree + 5 years experience; or
Option 2:
  • Possesses a Department of Labor, Bureau for Apprenticeship Training recognized journeyman's card in the discipline directly related to credentials, certifications, and competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and in journeyman status for two years or more with experience that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR)
  • And, possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR); or
Option 3:
  • Possesses any specialized certifications or credentials required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR)
  • And, 5 years directly related work experience in the field that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR); or
Option 4:
  • Possesses a current Workplace Specialist License, Technology Education License (Technology and Engineering Education, Engineering and Technology Education), or CTE: Trade & Industrial Engineer or Manufacturing License granted by the Indiana Department of Education appropriate to course objectives and directly linked to credentials, certifications, and competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR)
  • And, possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR).
