Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking an adjunct Spanish faculty member to teach in-person in East Chicago, IN. The position is temporary and part-time, hired each semester as needed.

You will create syllabi, teach SPAN courses, assess students, and maintain records using Blackboard and PowerPoint. Qualified candidates include: a master’s in Spanish or 18 graduate hours in Spanish, a native Spanish speaker with teaching experience, or a master’s in any field with Spanish coursework.

Qualifications

  • Earned master’s or higher degree in Spanish language or Spanish literature.
  • Earned master’s or higher degree in any discipline with 18 graduate hours in Spanish language or Spanish literature.
  • Native Spanish speaker with the master’s degree and two years of teaching experience in Spanish or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s) and teach in person.
  • Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) taught and follow division guidelines.
  • Maintain attendance and grading records per college policy.
  • Be available outside class time to assist students and address concerns.
  • Utilize technology (Blackboard, PowerPoint) as appropriate.

Job description

Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the Division.Pay: $47.35 per contact hourReports to: Chair of the Department*This is an in person position*Position is contingent on providing official transcriptsPROGRAM OPERATION:Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes. Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and follows syllabus content and requirements. Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook. Submits requested information within established timelines.STUDENTS:Is available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions/provide assistance. Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult with program coordinator to resolve issues.INSTRUCTION:Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s). Use technology such as Blackboard, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate. In event of emergency absence, notifies program/department chair. Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views. Promote same as an integral part of one's work.The above list of duties is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction.SPAN 101, 102, 201 AND 202 Course Standard:A qualified faculty member in Spanish meets the discipline standard through one of three routes:Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in Spanish language or Spanish literature; orPossesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in any discipline with 18 graduate hours in Spanish language or Spanish literature; orIs a native speaker of Spanish with a master’s degree and the equivalent of two years secondary or post-secondary teaching experience in Spanish or a related area (e.g. linguistics or another language).Position requires sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the College students and employees.
