Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking part-time adjunct faculty to deliver sociology courses and assist students in achieving learning goals. You will create outlines and materials, assess student work, and use technology to enhance instruction.

Responsibilities include monitoring student progress, providing interventions, and maintaining professional standards while complying with FERPA and college policies.

Responsibilities

• Deliver assigned classes in alignment with college policy and course objectives.
• Utilize technology to enhance instructional methods.
• Develop and maintain course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials, and maintain student records.
• Engage with students to promote active learning and meaningful classroom experiences.
• Monitor and document student performance; provide advisement and referrals as needed.
• Interact professionally with students and colleagues and comply with policies.
• Ensure knowledge and practice of emergency and safety procedures in all learning environments.

Education

Master’s or higher degree in sociology, social work, or social psychology

Master’s or higher degree with 18 hours in sociology and/or 18 graduate sociology courses including statistics/research

Job description

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

_ COMPENSATION: Part-time Weekdays, $47.35/contact hour _

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
• Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
• Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
• Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
• Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
• Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
• Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have strong
working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.

SOCIOLOGY DISCIPLINE STANDARD

1. Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in sociology, social work, or social psychology, or
2. Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in any field with 18 hours in sociology and/or in any field with 18 graduate semester hours in sociology related courses, including a course in statistics and/or research methodology.
