Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking an adjunct sociology faculty member to deliver courses and foster student success. You will develop syllabi, assess student work, and maintain records in alignment with college policies. The position emphasizes engaging teaching methods and use of technology to enhance learning.

The role is part-time, weekdays, with compensation of $47.35 per contact hour. Candidates should meet sociology credential standards and contribute to a diverse, inclusive learning

Responsibilities

• Facilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes per college policy and course objectives.
• Develop and maintain outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.
• Maintain accurate student records and grades.
• Engage with students to promote active learning and implement teaching strategies.
• Monitor student performance and provide interventions, tutoring, and referrals as needed.
• Follow FERPA and other regulatory requirements; ensure safety in classrooms and labs.

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Program Chair, Department Chair, or DeanSUPERVISION GIVEN: NoneCOMPENSATION: Part-time Weekdays, $47.35/contact hourMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have strongworking knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.SOCIOLOGY DISCIPLINE STANDARDA qualified faculty member in sociology meets the discipline standard through one of two routes:1) Possesses an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in sociology, social work, or social psychology, or2) Possesses an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in any field with 18 hours in sociology and/or in any field with 18 graduate semester hours in sociology related courses, including a course in statistics and/or research methodology.Ivy Tech is committed to supporting the well-being, growth, and financial security of our part-time employees.
