Job description

Responsibilities

Adjunct Faculty are responsible for teaching assigned courses, which includes developing and posting syllabi, preparing and delivering instruction, designing assignments and assessments, grading student work, and providing timely, constructive feedback. In addition, Adjunct Faculty are expected to engage in professional development, effectively utilize the College’s Online Learning Management System (CANVAS), and maintain open communication with students, colleagues, and supervisors. They may also contribute to curriculum improvement efforts aimed at enhancing student success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The responsibility of Adjunct Faculty is to teach classes as assigned. Duties related to the teaching of a course include, but are not limited to, the following types of activities:

• Developing a course syllabus in the format determined by theCollege and posting said syllabus to the College approved system bycollege posted deadlines.
• Preparing for and delivering class, studio, clinical, or lab instruction; at days, times, modalities and locations determined bythe College.
• Using assigned instructional materials to plan and deliver instruction designed to enhance student learning.
• Developing or modifying assignments, assessments and othercourse materials to support and evaluate student understanding ofcourse learning outcomes established in the course syllabus and perdepartment guidelines.
• Grading student work and providing constructive feedback tostudents in a timely fashion, including resolution of incomplete ordisputed grades.
• Participating in professional development opportunities offeredby the college and department.
• Validating textbooks, posting course syllabi, class/graderosters, and submitting final student grades by establisheddeadlines
• Remaining current with how to use the College’s Online Learning Management System (currently CANVAS) as required by departmentalguidelines.
• Responding in a timely fashion to communication from students,colleagues and supervisors
• Meeting with students individually to review course work asneeded.
• Adjunct faculty may work with other faculty in support ofcurricula improvement as appropriate to promote students' successand mastery of course and program competencies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Option 1: Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or closelyrelated field
• Option 2: Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours inCriminal Justice Technology
• Option 3: Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or closelyrelated field with appropriate documented work experience of atleast 2 years in the field
• Option 4: Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or closelyrelated field with at least two levels of certification fromrecognized industry leaders and appropriate documented workexperience of at least 1 year in the field
• Option 5: Associate degree in Criminal Justice or closelyrelated field and at least two levels of certification fromnationally recognized industry leaders and appropriate documentedwork experience of at least 3 years in the field
• Option 6: Associate degree with at least two levels ofcertification from nationally recognized industry leaders andappropriate documented work experience of at least 4 years in thefield
• Option 7: At least 12 credit hours of college levelcoursework completed and appropriate documented work experience ofat least 6 years in the field
• Option 8: At least 6 years of appropriate documented workexperience in the Criminal Justice field
• Option 9: At least 3 years of appropriate documented workexperience in the Criminal Justice field and at least two levels ofcertification from nationally recognized industry leaders

AND Certification as a General Instructor through the FloridaDepartment of Law Enforcement or allowed exemption documented byForm CJSTC 82.

Compensation & Support

Adjunct faculty are paid according to Seminole State College’sNon-Bargaining Unit Salary Schedule, based on theinstructor’s highest degree earned.
