Job summary

Job Overview

The Adjunct – Engineering position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with a major emphasis on teaching, supporting, and evaluating students. The role includes instruction and monitoring of teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by leadership, requiring strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups with complex material.

Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned courses on schedule and exercise oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with department policies.
  • Consider individual differences of students to design and support appropriate learning activities.
  • Identify students with academic or other needs and respond by utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Use technology appropriately to achieve course objectives and communicate expectations regarding its use.
  • Keep accurate and appropriate records, including attendance, grades, and other departmental requirements.
  • Distribute and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, cross‑college, and instructor requirements.
  • Conduct classes punctually in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
  • Employ appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance relative to course goals and objectives.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson regarding teaching duties and professional development.
  • Create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active, collaborative learning and academic challenge.
  • Use technology to assist in communication with students and encourage a sense of community inside and outside the classroom.
  • Refer students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the college or in the community.
  • Foster and maintain a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members.
