Job summary

Columbus State Community College is seeking an Adjunct for the Civil Engineering department to provide quality instruction, maintain a positive classroom environment, and engage effectively with students. Job description

Adjunct Position – Civil Engineering

The Adjunct position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. The incumbent must exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups of people with complicated material.

Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned courses as scheduled.
  • Design curriculum that embraces diversity and inclusive teaching strategies, applying knowledge of socio-cultural issues affecting traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • Consider individual student differences and design supportive learning activities.
  • Identify students with academic or other needs and respond with appropriate resources.
  • Use technology appropriately and communicate expectations concerning its use to students.
  • Keep accurate records, maintain attendance, submit grades timely, and communicate progress feedback throughout the semester.
  • Distribute accurate syllabi incorporating departmental, college, cross‑college, and instructor requirements.
  • Conduct classes punctually in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
  • Employ appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson regarding teaching duties and professional development.
  • Create a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, academic challenge, and interaction between students and faculty.
  • Use technology to assist in communication with students and encourage a sense of community both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Refer students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.
  • Foster and maintain a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.

Compensation

Compensation: $55.88 per contact hour.

Contact hour: Two hours equals one contact hour. Maximum of 12 contact hours per week. Part‑time.
