Job Description

The Adjunct – COLS position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis on teaching, supporting, and evaluating students. The role involves designing curriculum that embraces diversity, employing technology appropriately, and engaging in professional development, as described below.

Responsibilities
  • Teach and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair or other leadership members.
  • Design curriculum that embraces diversity in all forms to foster student talent and model inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Consider individual differences of students to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.
  • Identify students with academic or other needs and respond by utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Use technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicate clearly to students the expectations concerning its use.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with departmental policies, including attendance and grades, and communicate progress feedback to students throughout the semester.
  • Distribute and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, cross‑college, and instructor requirements.
  • Conduct classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
  • Employ appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
  • Engage in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties and professional development.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in an academic discipline (minimum).
  • College teaching experience and knowledge of Columbus State Community College (preferred).
  • Availability for in‑person, on‑campus classroom instruction.
Availability

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work sites, which may include assignments at various Regional Learning Centers.

Compensation

Compensation: $56.88 per contact hour. A contact hour equals two hours of instruction. Hours: Maximum of 12 contact hours per week. Employment status: Part time.
