Job Description
The Adjunct position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. The Adjunct role provides instruction and monitors teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair or other leadership members. The incumbent must exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups of people with complicated material.
Essential Job Functions
Instruction & Student Learning
- Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for curriculum oversight in accordance with the Department’s policies, ensuring program rigor and quality of instruction.
- Designs curriculum embracing diversity, fostering student talent, and models inclusive teaching strategies, taking into account socio‑cultural issues of underrepresented groups.
- Considers individual differences of students to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.
- Participates in identifying students with academic or other needs and responds using appropriate resources.
- Uses technology appropriately to support course objectives and communicates clear technology expectations to students.
- Maintains accurate records in accordance with the Faculty Handbook and departmental policies, including attendance and grades in a timely manner.
- Creates and maintains syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, cross‑college, and instructor requirements.
- Selects appropriate materials to support course curriculum per College guidelines.
- Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
- Assists in designing assessment techniques to measure student performance and course objectives.
- Facilitates learning in a digital environment.
Student Engagement & Advisement
- Creates a positive classroom atmosphere encouraging active, collaborative learning, student effort, and academic challenge.
- Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmental and college policies.
- Uses technology to assist communication with students.
- Encourages a sense of community among students both inside and outside the classroom.
- Advises potential or current students about program, career, or transfer options to assist degree completion.
- Refers students to appropriate support services at the college or community.
Continuous Improvement
- Assists, when appropriate, in maintaining instructional materials and laboratory facilities.
- Contributes to developing, selecting, and improving instructional materials and laboratories.
- Provides guidance in developing, maintaining, and designing course descriptions, outlines, and syllabi.
- Recommends curriculum modifications and participates in designing new curricula.
- Completes mandatory performance evaluation measures and required training.
- Shares best practices with colleagues formally or informally.
- Participates in research to improve educational effectiveness.
- Evaluates teaching and assessment practices to continue improvement.
- Provides feedback about general department operations.
- Participates, when appropriate, in interviewing, selecting, and orienting department faculty and staff.
- Provides advice/assistance to departmental, divisional, or college faculty.
- Attends faculty meetings and participates on committees as called by leadership.
Professional Development
- Maintains a personal portfolio for tenure, promotion, and career development.
- Uses student, administrative, and self‑appraisals to set professional development goals.
- Participates in professional development activities and contributes to planning and evaluating college programs.
- Maintains required professional credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours per disciplinary standards.
Culture of Respect
- Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides consultative assistance and advises student organizations and groups.
- Contributes to the community and/or the profession as a representative of the College.
- Participates in local, statewide, or national advancement of the discipline and/or the two‑year college mission.
- Works a varying schedule, including nights and weekends, to meet departmental needs.
- Is available to teach on‑site at the Main Campus and travel to regional campuses as scheduled.
- Supports required background check, motor vehicle operator’s license, or other prerequisites.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Administration or a closely related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in network management and/or server administration, covering server administration, cloud computing, virtualization, and wireless networks.
- Hands‑on experience with scripting languages, Windows Server, and Linux.
- State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or capability to obtain necessary work site access.
Licenses and Certifications
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to acquire access to work site(s).
Physical Requirements
- Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Compensation Details
- Compensation: $55.88 per contact hour.
- Contact hour: Two hours equals one contact hour.
- Maximum of 12 contact hours per week.
- Part‑time status.
