Responsibilities

  • Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and oversees curriculum in alignment with department policies.

Job Description:

The Adjunct – Carpentry position provides quality instruction andmaintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, withmajor emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluatingstudents. The Adjunct role provides instruction and monitorsteaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by theDepartment Chair, or other leadership members. The adjunct mustexhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitaskwhile engaging large groups of people with complicatedmaterial.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Instruction & Student Learning
  • Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primaryresponsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum inconjunction with department policies, ensuring both the rigor ofprograms and the quality of instruction. Designs curriculumembracing diversity in all forms to foster talent in students whilemodeling inclusive teaching strategies, with an understanding ofthe socio-cultural issues of traditionally underrepresented groups.Considers individual differences of students in order to design andsupport a range of appropriate learning activities. Participates inthe identification of students with academic or other needs andresponds by utilizing an appropriate resource. Uses technology in amanner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses andprograms and communicates clearly to students the expectationsconcerning the use of such technology. Keeps accurate andappropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Maintains attendance records, determines and submits gradestimely, and in accordance with established policies and proceduresof the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as otherrelevant information to students throughout the semester.Distributes and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporatesdepartmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements.Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribedmeeting schedule. Employs appropriate assessment techniques tomeasure students’ performance in achieving course goals andobjectives. Engages in periodic meetings with the department, LeadInstructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties andprofessional development.
Student Engagement & Advisement
  • Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages activeand collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge,student and faculty interaction, and support for learners.Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmental andpolicies of the College. Uses technology to assist in communicationwith students. Encourages a sense of community among students forlearning both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Advises potential or current students within the disciplineabout the program, career, or transfer options available to assistwith degree completion. Refers students to appropriate student andacademic support services available at the College or in thecommunity.

  • Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect andinclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of thecommunity.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Completion of a Registered Apprenticeship Program specific tothe carpentry trade; OR Five (5) years industry experience atJourney Level. Knowledge of residential/light commercial carpentrycode preferred.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable abilityto gain access to work site(s).
  • An appropriate combination of education, training,coursework, and experience may qualify a candidate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:

construction, repair, and service practicesrelated to residential/light commercial systems; data analysis andapplication to operational business decisions; online instructiontechniques and methods; Microsoft Office; Blackboard; internetresearch; online communication and record-keeping.

Skill in:

providing quality instruction; learningtechnologies and the use multi-media technology to enhance studentlearning; instructional planning and presentation; incorporatingcritical thinking, effective communication and other generaleducation outcomes in course content; effective time management;proficiency with online communication record-keeping.

Ability to:

effectively communicate and use interpersonalskills; create engaging learning environments that respect a widevariety of viewpoints; be sensitive to the needs and concerns of adiverse student population, socio-economic, cultural and ethnicbackgrounds and students with disabilities; work independentlywithout ongoing direct supervision; meet deadlines; perform studentlearning outcomes; maintain confidential and sensitive information,including FERPA.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

Compensation Details:
Compensation: $55.88 per contact hour
Contact Hour: Two hours equals one contact hour
Hours: Maximum of 12 contact hours per week
