Faculty Position Information

About ACU Abilene Christian University is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. All qualified applicants for these positions must be professing Christians and be active, faithful members of a congregation of the Churches of Christ and willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of the university.

Basic Responsibilities
  • A. Provide high-quality instruction, direction and support for students in the classroom environment.
  • B. When requested attend departmental/team meetings to participate with the program faculty in planning, and development of program and curriculum.
Essential Duties
  • A. Provide high quality instruction, direction and support for students in the classroom environment.
  • 1. Facilitate a range of class sizes, which may include dividing the class into sections for discussion and group activities.
  • 2. Provide rich and timely feedback on student work, being both encouraging and constructively critical.
  • 3. Hold a minimum of two office hours per week, and be available by appointment for in-person or virtual meetings with students individually or in groups.
  • 4. Provide timely and helpful answers to students' inquiries outside of class time, regarding course material or academic matters.
  • 5. Enter final course grades by deadline, after consultation with lead faculty and/or program director.
  • 6. Alert department chair and/or program director to any student issues. This includes performance issues (e.g. failing grades, failing to turn in assignments, etc.) and policy violation issues (e.g. plagiarism).
  • 7. Comply with all pertinent policies and procedures outlined in Abilene Christian University's Handbook, Faculty Guidelines, and those specified by ACU's College of Biblical Studies.
  • 8. Provide feedback to program director for program and/or course improvement.
  • 9. Attend/complete program and faculty trainings and provide credentialing/records updates as required.
  • 10. Other duties, as assigned and directed by lead faculty and/or program director.

Qualifications
  • A. Professional
  • 1. Relevant education and experience: must have at least 18 hours of graduate theological education and particular experience relevant to the courses assigned.
  • 2. Computer literacy in common software and internet-based applications.
  • 3. Commitment to the ACU Mission and policies and to the integration of faith and learning.
  • B. Personal
  • 1. Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • 2. Ability to view and manage role and responsibilities in relation to larger mission, goals and perspective of the university.
  • 3. Collaborative nature, with the ability to build consensus.
  • 4. Outstanding organizational and project management skills with the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • 5. Self-motivated and solves problems, asking for input and initiating solutions as appropriate and reasonable.
  • 6. Capacity to learn new software applications and learning management systems, e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, etc.
  • 7. Willingness to receive additional training and/or faculty mentoring.
  • 8. Ability to demonstrate good judgment when interacting with students, other faculty and staff.
