Job Description Summary
Each part‑time faculty member reports to a chair or director, satisfies accreditation criteria, possesses subject matter expertise, and has the following instructional and institutional responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Design courses, deliver instruction, evaluate student learning, and incorporate college‑required technology.
- Possess subject matter expertise and engage in ongoing professional development.
- Maintain effective communication within the college and the department or program.
- Plan, organise, and deliver instruction in classroom and/or high‑liability settings to promote student success.
- Support and promote the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
- Collaborate with Associate Director, coordinators, staff, and peers to evaluate curriculum and cultivate mastery of course content.
- Strictly honour the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures.
- Provide students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
- Appropriately document student progress and maintain records as needed.
- Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
- Teach Florida Department of Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Course (BRC) Law Enforcement and/or Corrections coursework within classroom and high‑liability settings, when applicable.
- Work a flexible schedule and be available at multiple sites, during day and evening, with flexibility throughout the calendar year.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Active certification as a FDLE General Instructor.
- At least three years as a certified Law Enforcement Officer or Corrections Officer, with a current certification, or separated in good standing as such an officer or equivalent.
- A criminal background check will be conducted.
Preferred
- Active certification as a FDLE Instructor in one or more high‑liability topic areas—Defensive Tactics, Vehicle Operations, Firearms, and/or First Aid.
General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Deliver a high level of interactive customer service.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships throughout the organization.
- Communicate effectively.
- Possess proficient computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule at multiple sites and demonstrate ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi‑cultural, collaborative environment.
