Job summary

Russell Tobin is seeking a Hardware Designer 2 for an on-site role in Fremont, CA. The position focuses on developing and supporting additive manufacturing technologies, with responsibilities spanning AM processes, CAD modeling, design optimization, and interfacing with product teams to resolve material and process interdependencies.

The role requires strong digital design skills, interpretation of engineering drawings, and participation in testing and failure analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develops and supports additive manufacturing (AM) processes and technology, including 3D printing, rapid prototyping, direct digital manufacturing, layered manufacturing and additive fabrications.
• Determines material-process-design interdependencies; provides AM design optimization input, researches and facilitates AM material and process discussions and requirements, interfaces with product line.
• Applies digital design, CAD, solid modeling software and computer aided engineering methods.
• Interprets engineering drawings/specifications and manufacturing processes; problem solves material, process and parts issues such as defect structure and porosity issues.
• Develops test methods and procedures, performs inspection and failure analysis.
• May develop qualitative tools and software to optimize and increase reliability of existing equipment for AM.
• May research new AM technologies, create AM work instructions and/or assist in the development of AM machinists/technicians, training on new product processes and methods.
