Freeform seeks a Design Engineer focused on semiconductor hardware to advance part design and production using additive manufacturing. The role sits at the intersection of advanced design and manufacturing, working with precise hardware and cross-functional teams in Hawthorne, CA.

The ideal candidate has deep mechanical engineering expertise, 5+ years in semiconductor equipment, and a strong ability to reason about manufacturability, materials, tolerances, and system-level constraints.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline.
• 5+ years hands-on engineering experience in semiconductor equipment or fabrication.
• Strong intuition for part design, design-for-manufacturing, and producibility.
• Systems-level understanding of semiconductor fabrication hardware.

Responsibilities

• Drive part design and redesign across semiconductor fabrication applications.
• Develop understanding of component-level requirements and system constraints.
• Rethink part design from first principles using additive manufacturing.
• Evaluate design concepts with materials, tolerances, and production considerations.
• Answer advanced technical questions on design tradeoffs and production scalability.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to refine concepts.
• Engage with customer engineering teams to understand requirements and provide solutions.
• Identify new application spaces where Freeform's tech improves performance.
